We joined Hebden bridge woodcraft for a residential weekend culminating in a strawberry tea to raise funds for the Senegalese delegation to the Global Village international camp next year.
Hebden did the catering and were to provide the tents from their camp store. Unfortunately the person responsible for collecting the tents hurt his back and was unable to collect them. I am glad to say that he had recovered by the weekend however with only 7 tents not everyone who wished to could sleep under canvas. The rest slept in the farmhouse bedrooms or on the mistrals gallery in the barn.
We organised our day around co-operative activities, with “games” like crossing the river and building structures out of wood and rope. Cooking and washing up was also a co-operative activity. We formed a log chain to transfer wood from the back of the Landrover to the fire circle and had a campfire in the evening.
The following day we had a drumming session and prepared shortbread, cleaned and decorated ready for the tea. We were very impressed with the numbers who climbed up to height gate to visit and join in. Finally after a very tiring weekend we cleaned up, packed and everyone returned home to get some sleep.
