Apologies for my absence, it is my wife’s birthday.
We started the term with a bit of a party and a board games evening so that everyone got a chance to play with their new Christmas toys.
The following week we had a games session, in which everyone was asked to list his or her three favourite games. It is hoped that this means that in future the children may choose games to play from this resource.
The next week coincided with the BBC/RSPB spring bird watch. We played a bird identification game and handed out record charts for the children to complete that weekend.
Story telling with John occurred around about book week. We discussed the difference between story telling and reading and everyone had a go at telling a story that they liked.
For Chinese New Year we played at using chopsticks, discussed the animal corresponding to our birth years and constructed Chinese cards.
I decided to research and talk about animal rights for the final session of the term. I think that it is fair to say that it was not an unqualified success. The children were very attentive and seemed interested in the subject but I fear that the complexities were beyond them. We cover such contentious subjects to encourage them to think and draw their own conclusions rather than accept unquestioned the opinions of others.
